The local village of Benabbio, which is
a 10 minute walk from Mura di Sopra, is a typical Tuscan
hill top village with a wealth of history dating from
Medieval times. It is situated on the road that goes
from Bagni di lucca over the hills down to Pescia and on
to Florence.
There is a Romanesque church with
several notable art works. A beautiful triptych of the
15th century Florentine school, two 14th century wooden
statues, and a 16th century font.
Benabbio has a lively summer club where you can sample
village life and dance under the stars on Saturday
night.
The village has a small shop which has
all the basic provisions you will nee. There is also a
newsagent. It has an excellent bar and restaurant which
serves inexpensive workers' lunches and sophisticated
local fare in the evening. There is also a pizzeria
which serves traditional food as well as pizza to eat in
or take away
